Women in Project Management (WIPM)
About WIPM
WIPM proudly supports and encourages gender diversity in the project management industry through its initiatives to encourage women to achieve, thrive and move into leadership roles. The Gender Diversity initiative was formed in 2018 and it supports and contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals – Goal No. 5: Gender Diversity.
The primary goal is to encourage women to take leadership roles in their organisations or PMI Melbourne Chapter, and to develop and enhance their careers in the project management profession.
WIPM Objective 1: Gender Diversity
1. Fill the gap in gender equality in the project management community and the Chapter
2. Encourage women to thrive to move to leadership roles in the project management community
WIPM Objective 2: Increase the number of female members
1. Increase and retain female members
2. Increase the number of female volunteers
3. Increase the number of female leaders within the Chapter
Find talent, nurture and develop
PMI Melbourne Chapter supports female volunteers with the proven 3 step model:
1. Identification phase
Identify potential female volunteers and pave the development plan (1 to 2 years before formally applying for a Board position).
2. Nurture phase
Provide leadership volunteering opportunities and assign a Board member as Mentor to support the development plan.
3. Appointment and retention phase
Formal Board position application, handover and support, flexibility with Board duties.
